The topic of sarcopenia is well aligned with the objectives of l’Institut Servier. In fact, while the 2012 symposium focused on muscle aging, discussion had taken place previously, in 2003, with a first meeting on “Vulnerability, frailty and aging”, and in 2007, when speakers talked about the study of states of functional dependence. Presentations and discussions at both gatherings touched briefly on the role of muscle aging, but it was not addressed specifically.
